Chemistry and Environment

Chemistry is importan to the understanding of the environment and developing of the solutions. It helps scientists understand how pesticides cleaners, and other chemicals we used affect the health of people and wildlife, how methane and carbon dioxide aggravates global warming, and how nitrates and phosphate contribute to eutrophication. Chemistry is crucial to solve environmental problems. For example, for Exxon Valdez oil spill, scientists investigated the composition of the oil and decided to use bioremediation to clean up the pollution. Today environmental chemists are trying to advance bioremediation by genetic engineering and also seeking applications of chemistry that may help address environmental problems.
