Bioremediation

Bioremediation is the attempt to clean up pollution by enhancing natural process of biodegradation by living organisms. It helps environmental providing a less expensive, less environmentally intrusive, and more effective than conventional methods for cleaning up pollutions. It has been successfully used to clean up the oil spill of Exxon Valdez by bacteria and plants. However, bioremediation does have limitation. For example, cleanup by plants is limited to depths reached by the roots. Also some bacteria used in remediation may alter the ecosystem of the area, and plants used many turn invasive. Furthermore, plants that accumulate metals may harm insects.
